A BeyondWords alternative for WordPress
Codeep Voice records your posts on your own computer and saves the MP3s in WordPress. BeyondWords offers a hosted audio publishing workflow. The choice comes down to how much of the work you want to do yourself.
Written by SD Software, the maker of Codeep Voice. Third-party details checked against the sources below. This is a comparison of public documentation, not a hands-on review of a paid BeyondWords account.
The demo opens on Hugging Face and turns up to 800 characters of English text into an MP3. It downloads the model first and does not connect to WordPress. The free plugin reads English. Pro, including other languages, is coming soon. Check Pro availability.
For the WordPress workflow, see how to save a post as an MP3.
Price and workflow
BeyondWords describes billing by article. Its public pricing link currently leads to a sales demo. We have not confirmed a current fixed subscription amount, so this page does not calculate a saving against an old tariff.

When BeyondWords fits better
Choose a hosted workflow if your team needs automatic regeneration, cloned voices, audio advertising or listening reports. These are useful capabilities, not costs that every publication should try to remove. BeyondWords documents these publishing features.
When Codeep fits better
Consider Codeep if an English-language blog needs downloadable MP3s, you want the files in your own Media Library, and keeping a recording tab open is practical. You can try that workflow without a subscription or a third-party API account.
What stays with your site
Codeep writes ordinary MP3 files to your WordPress storage. Your readers play those files; they do not run a voice model. If a Pro subscription ends, the recordings already made remain, and the free plugin can keep playing them.
BeyondWords also offers audio downloads. Exporting a recording and keeping its hosted player working are different questions: confirm the post-cancellation hosting terms for your account before switching. We have not verified those terms.
Know the local recording trade-off
The first use downloads a voice model. Recording then uses your CPU or graphics hardware, so speed varies with the voice and computer. Keep the admin tab open until the MP3 is saved. This is not unattended server-side generation, including with Pro.
Free includes nine English voices. Pro adds 177 voice models covering 53 languages, bulk recording, a pronunciation dictionary and a podcast feed. Its record-on-publish feature runs in the editor while the tab stays open.
Pro is a yearly subscription, not a lifetime purchase. Check Pro details and availability. The free plugin works on its own.
Try one post before moving an archive
- Run the browser demo on the computer you would use for recording.
- Install Codeep and record a representative English post. Check names, headings and the finished MP3.
- Disable the old player on that test post so readers see one audio player.
- Check your existing audio exports and hosted playback terms before cancelling another service.
Codeep has no built-in BeyondWords migration tool. It does not automatically attach exported recordings to posts; recording new audio is the workflow described here.
